Do Whatever Comes Natural
Friends,
Never lose sight of what’s important in this life……your health, kids, loved ones, etc.
Near the beginning of my new book, “Finding Normal”, I cite that it’s because of certain unshakable beliefs…..that I choose to live in the suburbs. Furthermore, as Sue and I approach retirement, a handful of years ago we decided to move across town to our ‘forever’ home that offers an upgrade in curb appeal but is also situated in a much more tranquil location. To quote from the book, “We even have a duck pond out back that can be seen from the back windows of our house. Trees surround our residence. We have bear, deer, coyote, fox, turkey, opossum, and even a bobcat and a beaver that frequent our property on top of the normal variety of birds, squirrels, chipmunks, frogs, turtles, (and yes, snakes), and the such. I don’t have to search for what comes naturally. I’ve surrounded myself with it. My home-base is encompassed with ‘normal’ in the form of nature itself. I find it comforting and a good place to start any given day. Chicken soup for the soul.
As a matter of fact, given the nature of my human oriented soul, whenever I’m home everything is normal. No matter where I happen to fall on any given bell curve…..from belief system to knuckle wrinkles…..it’s all normal to me. That is until I turn on the TV or radio, venture out beyond my 4 walls, or in any way interact with the outside world whether it be through one-on-one conversation, by phone, e-mail, text, or otherwise. But until then, I am well insulated from any perceived differences/insanity that may be running amok in this “modern” day, PC correct world. Furthermore, I assume that everyone feels more or less the same way”.
As such, I would highly recommend for you to discover your own comfort zone…..a place where you can spend significant time just being you. That not only means having a location…..but things, hobbies, and even other people that add comfort and value to your life. And don’t worry if you haven’t got it all figured out yet, because it truly is about the journey.
But if you haven’t already, I would implore you to do two things beginning right now…..and going forward. The first is to do your best to surround yourself with things that please you. And the second is to always strive to make tomorrow better than today. Especially as time passes, I’ve found that this winning strategy increasingly proves to be worth its weight in gold.
All the best,
Dick D.
Ps; Remember to look for ‘Finding Normal’ when it becomes available…..tentatively in 2026.
